Day 19

In the egg th chicken is almost fully developed. The beak has even started breaking through the inner shell. The lungs also begin to work. Finally, the yolk sac begins to enter the body cavity.

Day 18

This day the chick's lungs are starting to work on its own to breath air soon. Also the beak is working through the outer membrane or outer layer of the shell, to get closer to hatching out.

Day 17!
If you're underwater and need to come up fast, you face your nose and mouth towards the air, right? Well, that's just what these chicks do on day 17. They turn their cute little beaks toward the air cells!

The squishy white seal (chorioallantoic cavity) lines most of the inside surface of the egg shell.

Day14

Wanna know what happens to the egg on day 14?
On day 14 the skull becomes to harden into a bone.

The baby chick will turn its head to the rounder side of the egg.

The wings start to grow feathers.  The collar bone begins to form the wishbone.

Day 12

What in the world happens on day 12 inside a chicken egg? Well, I will tell you. The scales appear on the lower legs. The embryo continues to grow and develop and the ribs begin to harden. WOW!!!

Day 10

The chick's claws begin to form and its flying feathers appear. This will help the chick fly.

Day 9

                      What’s going on inside the egg? The upper eyelids begin to form over the eyes. Then, the knee caps begin to grow.

Day 8

Do you know what happens on day 8?  The inside of the eyelids are being formed. 

Day 7

Today, a row of itty bitty feathers grow on the tail and thigh.  Also, part of the eyeball starts to appear and its legs bend at the knee.

Day 6

The beak and the eggtooth start to form.

Day 5

Have you ever wondered what's going on inside the eggs that you eat?
Well, if your eggs had been incubated like ours, then at five days the baby chicken's bones have started to grow and so have the reproductive organs! Isn't that cool?!

Day 4

This is Day 4 of our egg's growth. On this day of development the chick weighs .05 grams. But soon it will begin to grow very fast, JUST LIKE YOU!!! Before you were born we knew what you looked like. On the 4th day we can see how the chicken's body beginning to form.


Day 3

Now the chick's head begins to turn onto its left side. Also its tongue begins to form. Stubs where the wings and legs should be are visible and a tail has appeared on its back. Soon organs such as the liver, kidneys, and lungs with appear.

Day 2

In 25 hours the heart starts to form.
The ears begin to form in 33 hours.
After 42 hours the heart starts to beat.


Day 1

Day 1!
• In the first 2/3 of the day, the cute little baby chick starts to look like a chick embryo-or a chick in a big sac!


• Ever wonder where a chick’s food goes? In just 18 hours, you can see the tube that the chick’s food goes down after he eats it.

• Have you ever noticed that there’s a bumpy bone going down the middle of your back? That’s called your spine. You can see the baby chick’s spine in just 20 hours!

• Have you ever touched a hot stove or oven and pulled your hand back right away? That’s because of your nervous system, your nerves. In 21 hours, the chick’s nervous system and nerves begin!

• In 22 hours, the chick’s head begins to grow.

• In the last hour of the day, at 24 hours, the chick’s eyes begin to grow!

Getting Ready

We have three eggs in our incubator and are hoping they hatch!  Our last batch of three had not developed past day 6.  :(
